TRAVELLING TO AUSTRALIA

All international visitors, including Papua New Guinea citizens, require a visa to travel to or transit through Australia.  Information about the types of visas, and the eligibility and requirements for different classes of visa, can be found at www.homeaffairs.gov.au and by using the Department of Home Affairs’ Visa Finder service online.

Applications for visas can in some cases be completed online. For people who cannot complete an application online, the Australian Visa Application Centre is located in Port Moresby to assist with and accept completed applications. Neither the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby, nor the Australian Consulate in Lae directly accept visa applications.

TRAVELLING TO PAPUA NEW GUINEA

All foreign visitors to PNG require a visa. Australian citizens can apply for a 30-day tourist visa on arrival at Port Moresby’s Jacksons International Airport.  Other visa types require approval through an application to a PNG Consulate or the PNG High Commission in Canberra.

Information on the types of visas available is detailed at the website of the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority. Advice on Australian-based applications and processing timelines for visa applications can be found at the website for the PNG High Commission and consulates.
