Emerging Leaders Dialogue

Each year the Aus-PNG Network hosts its flagship event, the Australia-Papua New Guinea Emerging Leaders Dialogue.  This draws together a diverse group of young and dynamic leaders from the two countries for a wide-ranging discussion on topical and relevant issues.

Participants are nominated to represent a range of experience, expertise and industry and society groups. Nominations are now closed for the 2023 Dialogue, which was held from 16 to 20 October in Cairns, Queensland.

The Aus-PNG Network will cover the cost of return airfares, accommodation, visa application fees and transportation to and from activities.

Participants' insights are documented in an outcomes paper which is forwarded to the two countries’ Foreign Ministers and is published on the Network’s website.

In previous years, the Dialogue has provided insight into topics including health, leadership, economic empowerment, art, politics, and civil society.

You can find out more about the Dialogue by looking at our searchable directory of all previous participants, and also review the outcomes documents from previous meetings. Participants and other network members write about relevant issues building on the discussions at the Dialogue, and they are included in our ongoing events and activities through the Australia-PNG Network.

If you’re considering nominating yourself or someone else, you can join our priority mailing list at our nominations page to get an alert when nominations open. There is more information about the application process and the event itself at our Frequently Asked Questions page.
