Beyond the capital: Covid-19 in PNG's provinces

Join us to discuss the impact of Covid-19 in Papua New Guinea's provincial centres, and ways that Australia can continue to help
Wed, 21 April 2021

Papua New Guinea is dealing with a widespread outbreak of Covid-19 that has placed already stretched health services across the country under intense strain. While the situation in the capital Port Moresby is difficult, the pandemic’s impact is also being felt in provinces across the country. This panel will bring together representatives from provinces in PNG to talk about the situation and how local officials are contending with the virus. We’ll also hear from Australian experts on ways that PNG’s neighbour can continue to provide support for the pandemic response. Panellists:

  • Dr Pamela Toliman, PNG Institute of Medical Research, Goroka
  • Dr Stella Jimmy, Provincial Coordinator Covid-19, West Sepik Provincial Health Authority, Vanimo
  • Professor Brendan Crabb, CEO, Burnet Institute, Melbourne

Hosted by Shane McLeod, Lowy Institute - Australia-Papua New Guinea Network Register here to attend this online digital event.
